No Engine No Argument

Black Mercedes EQS

The electric S-Class: silent, enormous inside, and the least tiring way there is to cross Los Angeles at five o'clock.

An hour of stationary traffic is a completely different hour in a car that makes no noise.

Los Angeles traffic is the exact condition an electric car was invented for. There is no gearbox hunting for a ratio, no engine idling, no shove-and-lift as the transmission makes up its mind — just a car that moves when you ask and stops when you do not, in silence. After a week of it, going back to a combustion saloon in the same traffic feels agitated.

01Downtown at dusk. The full-width bar at the back is the only part of this car that announces anything.

The other half of it is space. The EQS was designed around a flat floor, so there is no transmission tunnel and no engine to package, and the rear seat has more headroom than an S-Class does. The whole body is a single arch from nose to tail — the shape exists to cut drag rather than to look like a saloon, and the interior is the thing that shape bought.

It is also very easy to place for something this long, because the rear axle steers. At low speed the back wheels turn against the fronts and it parks like a car two sizes smaller; at freeway speed they turn with them and it simply tracks. It is the feature nobody books it for and everybody mentions afterwards.

No gearbox, no idle, no noise.

Queries

Where can I rent a Mercedes EQS in Los Angeles?
Nizo Luxury rents the Mercedes EQS in Los Angeles — +1 (424) 303-6496. It is $299 a day; we bring it to your hotel or your home, or you collect it at no charge from our office on Robertson Boulevard.
How much does it cost to rent a Mercedes EQS in Los Angeles?
The black EQS is $299 a day. The day rate is the whole of it on this car — there is no weekly or monthly block, so a longer booking is priced day by day. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary, and it arrives fully charged.
Where do I charge it?
It is delivered fully charged, which covers a normal day in the city without a thought. If you are covering serious distance, say so when you book and we will talk you through the nearest fast chargers to wherever you are staying.
Is it difficult to park for a car that size?
Less than you would think. The rear axle steers, so at low speed the back wheels turn against the front ones and the car swings into spaces a saloon this long has no business fitting.
Is it as comfortable in the back as an S-Class?
There is more headroom in the back of this than in an S-Class, because there is no transmission tunnel and the roof is one long arch. If the point of the week is being driven rather than driving, it is the right car in the fleet.
Can I see the dates before I call?
Yes — the diary on this page is the live fleet calendar. If a date is open there, it is open.

The terms, before you commit

Refundable deposit
$750
A hold, not a charge, and released 5–7 business days after a clean return, longer only if there is damage to price.
Protection plan
$100 a day
Priced off the deposit rather than the rate. Your own qualifying full-coverage policy takes this line out of the quote entirely.
Driver, 21–24
$50 a day
Twenty-one is the floor, with a licence held two years. The higher band applies at or above a $1,500 deposit; this car is below it.
Shortest booking
24 hours
No maximum. Delivery is complimentary at our Robertson Boulevard lot and our four Beverly Hills partner hotels; LAX is $150 both ways with the car in the airport parking structure or $300 both ways to the terminal, half that for one direction.

This one is the same rate at every length — it carries no multi-day block, so three days is three times one day.

Renting the Mercedes EQS: the short answers

Can I book the Mercedes EQS with a driver?
Yes. A chauffeur is from $100 an hour on a two-hour minimum, added to the car at its day rate — $699 for a four-hour evening in this car. No security deposit is taken on a chauffeured booking. The same car can be driven to the event and yours with the keys the morning after; the chauffeur service page has the runs and the hours.
What do I need to rent the Mercedes EQS, and can international guests book?
A driver of 21 or over with a licence held at least two years — between 21 and 24 a young-driver fee of $50 a day applies on this car, and under 21 is considered case by case. A major credit card in the primary renter's name for the refundable hold, and cover for the car: your own full-coverage policy if it extends to a rental, or our Protection plan arranged with the booking. International guests rent on a passport and a home-country licence; no International Driving Permit is needed. The hold is released 5–7 business days after a clean return, longer only if there is damage to price. If the age floor or the cover is the thing in the way, the same car goes out with a driver instead — that booking asks neither of you.
How far ahead should I book the Mercedes EQS, and can I change the dates?
There is no notice period: the calendar on this page shows the days it is free, and once a booking is paid a car that is free can be on its way to you in about an hour — same day included. Moving the dates is free, as often as you need, outside the last day before the start; a change inside it keeps one day's rate. What comes back if you cancel is set out in our terms and conditions.
Can the Mercedes EQS be delivered to my hotel, my home or LAX?
Yes. Delivery is complimentary to the Beverly Wilshire, the Four Seasons at Doheny, L’Ermitage and the Maybourne, and collection from our Robertson Boulevard office costs nothing. LAX is $150 both ways with the car in the airport parking structure or $300 both ways to the terminal, half that for one direction. Any other address is priced by distance from the office, $75 one way inside 10 miles, and itemised on the quote before you pay.
How many miles are included, and can I take the Mercedes EQS out of California?
Every car carries its own daily mileage allowance, and yours arrives in writing with the booking confirmation, together with the per-mile rate for anything over it. The car may leave the state — Las Vegas, Arizona, up the coast — as long as you tell us the plan in advance and keep the allowance in mind; it comes home to Los Angeles, since there is no one-way drop in another city.
What does a weekend in the Mercedes EQS cost, and can I rent it by the hour?
$598 for two days and $897 for three, before the Protection plan, tax and any delivery — there is no separate weekend rate, and one day is the minimum on a Saturday too. The day is the shortest self-drive booking; by the hour, the car goes out with a driver, from $100 an hour on a two-hour minimum.
