Grey Porsche 911 Targa with the Bordeaux roof closed on a Beverly Hills forecourt

Open Air

Grey Porsche 911 Targa

The roof folds away behind a brushed silver hoop, and the shape that made the 911 famous stays exactly where it was.

It settles an argument every open car has been losing since the sixties.

A cabriolet gives you sky and takes the roofline away with it. A coupe keeps the roofline and keeps you underneath it. The Targa is the one car that refuses to choose: the rear glass lifts, the panel above your head folds back behind the seats, and the brushed hoop that has marked this model out since 1965 stays standing.

01Roof stowed on the coast road above Malibu. Everything behind the seats — hoop, glass, deck — is where it was with the roof on.

The whole performance takes about nineteen seconds and it is the best thing to watch in any hotel forecourt in Los Angeles. The glass canopy rises, the roof panel lifts clear and stows, the glass comes back down, and what is left is a 911 with nothing over the driver and the same silhouette it had a moment earlier. People stop walking.

What you get afterwards is open air rather than an open car, and that distinction is the point rather than a compromise. The hoop and the rear glass stay, so there is no buffeting at speed and no conversation shouted over the wind — you can drive the coast road with the roof off and still hear the person next to you.

Open air over your head,
and the roofline still there.

Queries

Where can I rent a Porsche 911 Targa in Los Angeles?
Nizo Luxury rents the Porsche 911 Targa in Los Angeles — +1 (424) 303-6496. It is $749 a day; we bring it to your hotel or your home, or you collect it at no charge from our office on Robertson Boulevard.
How much does it cost to rent a Porsche 911 Targa in Los Angeles?
The grey Targa is $749 a day. The day rate is the whole of it on this car — there is no weekly or monthly block, so a longer booking is priced day by day. Delivery to our Beverly Hills partner hotels is complimentary.
Is a Targa the same as a convertible?
No, and it matters if you are booking for photographs. The panel above your head folds away; the silver hoop and the wrap-around rear glass stay in place. You get open air rather than a completely open car. For a fully open Porsche, ask about the Boxster instead.
Can I open the roof myself, and can I do it while driving?
Yes to the first — it is one control on the centre console and takes about nineteen seconds. No to the second: the car has to be stopped. Plan on pulling over at the overlook rather than opening it on the move.
How many people fit, and where does the luggage go?
Two comfortably, with two small rear seats behind them that suit bags or a short hop with children. The boot is in the nose and takes two soft weekend cases. For four adults and their luggage, ask about the BMW 7 or the Bentley Bentayga.
Can I see the dates before I call?
Yes — the diary on this page is the live fleet calendar. If a date is open there, it is open.

The terms, before you commit

Refundable deposit
$2,000
A hold, not a charge, and released 5–7 business days after a clean return, longer only if there is damage to price.
Protection plan
$225 a day
Priced off the deposit rather than the rate. Your own qualifying full-coverage policy takes this line out of the quote entirely.
Driver, 21–24
$175 a day
Twenty-one is the floor, with a licence held two years. The higher band applies at or above a $1,500 deposit; this car is in it.
Shortest booking
24 hours
No maximum. Delivery is complimentary at our Robertson Boulevard lot and our four Beverly Hills partner hotels; LAX is $150 both ways with the car in the airport parking structure or $300 both ways to the terminal, half that for one direction.

This one is the same rate at every length — it carries no multi-day block, so three days is three times one day.

Renting the Porsche 911 Targa: the short answers

Can I book the Porsche 911 Targa with a driver?
Yes. A chauffeur is from $100 an hour on a two-hour minimum, added to the car at its day rate — $1,149 for a four-hour evening in this car. No security deposit is taken on a chauffeured booking. The same car can be driven to the event and yours with the keys the morning after; the chauffeur service page has the runs and the hours.
What do I need to rent the Porsche 911 Targa, and can international guests book?
A driver of 21 or over with a licence held at least two years — between 21 and 24 a young-driver fee of $175 a day applies on this car, and under 21 is considered case by case. A major credit card in the primary renter's name for the refundable hold, and cover for the car: your own full-coverage policy if it extends to a rental, or our Protection plan arranged with the booking. International guests rent on a passport and a home-country licence; no International Driving Permit is needed. The hold is released 5–7 business days after a clean return, longer only if there is damage to price. If the age floor or the cover is the thing in the way, the same car goes out with a driver instead — that booking asks neither of you.
How far ahead should I book the Porsche 911 Targa, and can I change the dates?
There is no notice period: the calendar on this page shows the days it is free, and once a booking is paid a car that is free can be on its way to you in about an hour — same day included. Moving the dates is free, as often as you need, outside the last day before the start; a change inside it keeps one day's rate. What comes back if you cancel is set out in our terms and conditions.
Can the Porsche 911 Targa be delivered to my hotel, my home or LAX?
Yes. Delivery is complimentary to the Beverly Wilshire, the Four Seasons at Doheny, L’Ermitage and the Maybourne, and collection from our Robertson Boulevard office costs nothing. LAX is $150 both ways with the car in the airport parking structure or $300 both ways to the terminal, half that for one direction. Any other address is priced by distance from the office, $75 one way inside 10 miles, and itemised on the quote before you pay.
How many miles are included, and can I take the Porsche 911 Targa out of California?
Every car carries its own daily mileage allowance, and yours arrives in writing with the booking confirmation, together with the per-mile rate for anything over it. The car may leave the state — Las Vegas, Arizona, up the coast — as long as you tell us the plan in advance and keep the allowance in mind; it comes home to Los Angeles, since there is no one-way drop in another city.
What does a weekend in the Porsche 911 Targa cost, and can I rent it by the hour?
$1,498 for two days and $2,247 for three, before the Protection plan, tax and any delivery — there is no separate weekend rate, and one day is the minimum on a Saturday too. The day is the shortest self-drive booking; by the hour, the car goes out with a driver, from $100 an hour on a two-hour minimum.
