Protection plans and damage, explained

Whether you are covered and what happens when something goes wrong: what the Protection plan includes, whether your own auto policy or a card benefit reaches an exotic, what a visitor without US insurance does, and damage at return.

The question under every other question is what happens if the car is scratched. The answer has three parts: the Protection plan that goes on the quote, the personal auto policy some renters carry that can stand in for it, and the credit-card benefit that most people assume covers a Lamborghini and almost never does. This hub is the three parts side by side.

Two things to keep in view: the cover sold with a rental here is the Protection plan, and the pages below say what it includes and what stays with you; and the refundable hold is explained alongside it, because a claim touches both. Visitors renting with a licence from abroad have their own page — renting with a foreign licence — and the American Express rental car coverage says what the card benefit does and does not do.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need insurance to rent an exotic car in Los Angeles?

Nizo Luxury covers every rental one of two ways — +1 (424) 303-6496: our Protection plan on the quote, from $50 to $225 a day by the car's deposit band, or your own full-coverage policy, which takes that line off the quote once we have accepted the certificate.

Does my own insurance or my credit card cover an exotic rental?

Your own policy covers the rental if it is collision and comprehensive rather than liability only, reaches the value of the car you are renting, has no exclusion for exotic or high-value rentals, and names every driver — send us the certificate before the booking date and the Protection plan comes off the quote. A credit card’s built-in rental benefit is the one to read twice: American Express’s names exotic and high-value vehicles as not covered.

Your policy or ours

Is the security deposit charged to my card?

No. It is an authorisation on the renter's own credit card, placed at handover — the money is reserved, not moved — and released 5–7 business days after a clean return, longer only if there is damage to price.
